CV Hints and Tips

CV Hints:

• Keep your CV as simple as possible. Don’t include photos and graphics.
• Save your CV in a format that is easily read by many people. Stick to MS Word and stay away from pdf, rtf and j.peg formats.
• Remember to include your contact details.
• Provide lots of detail about your current position – particularly the projects that you have worked on.
• Include a list of the technologies that you are experienced in – and rate the level of skill that you think you have achieved.

CV’s: Headings to Include:

1. Personal Details:
   Remember to include your full name, physical address, email address and cellular number.
2. Education and Training:
   Remember to include all of your studies, starting with Matric and listing all of your tertiary degrees/ diplomas and courses completed. Remember to list:
   • The full name of the qualification.
   • The full name of the institution that you studied at.
   • Your start and completion date.
   • An explanation, if the qualification is incomplete.
3. Career Chronology:
   Start with your most recent job first and list all of the jobs that you have had by date. It’s a good idea to include an explanation for any gaps in service. Include the following:
   • Your job title.
   • The company name.
   • Your start and end dates.
   • Details about your role – including lots of information about the projects that you have worked on and the technologies that you have used.
   • Give a brief summary of your reasons for leaving.
4. Achievements:
   List your achievements and any awards that you have won.
5. References:
   Remember to list people who are able to give feedback about your performance. Stick to your Manager or people that you reported to.
